The hard part with NE is to find the balance between fast tech and units. I recommend a hunt / arch mix to start to dryads / dotts / chims. Works great against anyone but undead. With undead replace the chims with Mountain Giants (make sure they are fully upgraded).

Ok here is how i start off to get Hunts. Its pretty fast even ask AJM. Well i build a hunters hall/moon well. Then i put 2 wisp on tree. Then 2 in mine. then put up to 12 food of wisp on trees. Then once i hit 50 food i get altar. Then war/moon well/war/ then i just keep building moon wells. And if i have left over i upgrade huntress armour. By the way thats how i start off now how i play through the whole game. Every strat i give on this i never say the whole thing. Then People would be stealing my strat. Wouldnt they?
You can't always win. That's why you stop competing. Saves a lot of embarrassment.

I like mutalizer's best here, merely because it actually shows build order and it is more complete... However, only complaint here about it, is that I suggest to NEVER keep units off of gold, no matter what. The reason is that you will eventually catch up with wood either way. The only thing is that the gold you have lost in attempt to go quicker will never come back to you, until WAY late in the game, when your mine is near dead anyway. If you have problems with early rushing, just build a quick tower, which will do two things: prevent early rushes, and act as an extra power unit if someone decides to attack you. Towers can be very helpful, especially if the battle isn't really going your way.
